So, here at Steven’s’ Wood Work, I primarily use 2 types of finish.
Type 1, if you have purchased or received a cutting board, cheese slicers, or charcuterie board, these were finished with mineral oil and a homemade butcher block wax I make( locally harvested beeswax and mineral oil.)
This means, you will need to follow the take care of your new cutting board instructions below.
Do NOT store next to hot surface..
Do NOT WASH in the dishwasher..
Do NOT soak or leave board submerged in water..
Do NOT use bleach.
Wash with warm water and small amount of soap and rinse, and then at least once a month (for light use) you’ll want to replenish the board’s mineral oil that’s been depleted through washing and use.
You can purchase mineral oil on Amazon or get some butcher block oil from the paint area of your local Hardware store.
If you want to disinfect the cutting board use white vinegar, let it sit for 10 min, wash as stated above.
And, for an extra layer of protection you can get a 4oz jar of my homemade butcher block wax.
Type 2, is used on serving trays, wine caddie, and any table I build. It’s a non-toxic, food safe urethane that has a satin finish. All you have to do is wipe clean with a rag. If you have to clean the serving trays because of food, simply use a damp cloth and dry.
This product is called Emmit’s Good Stuff Wood finish.
